Yesterday, a public hearing was held in Danao City Training Center proposing majority of the land in Camotes to be alienable and disposable.
The absence of any objection raises the optimism of the landowners that now it’s a matter of “when” NOT “if” the Senate Bill 2463 and House bill 897 is passed. As of now most of them, only hold tax declarations.
The island was declared as mangrove swamp forest reserve through Presidential Proclamation 2152 of then President Ferdinand Marcos. It covers the municipalities of Pilar, Poro, Tudela and San Francisco.
Sen. Miguel Zubiri, chairman of the committee on environment and natural resources has a concern, but its is shared by most of the land owners. They don’t want Camotes to end up like Boracay.
A management team composed of the national and local governments to oversee the maximum use of the lands and resources with minimum damage on the environment.
Zubiri and Rep. Durano assured of the speedy passage of the Bill.
